Challenge
Klaus was called to evaluate a customer’s roof that was installed 25 years ago, which was beginning to have leaking issues in the roof valleys.
In addition, the skylights had lost their gas between the glass and appeared hazy. This likely means the seal around the glass had deteriorated and other damage was being caused due to the failed insulated glass unit, leading to the hazel appearance.
What We Found:
- Moss growing in the valleys between roof and wall flashing
- Lifted shingles, creating a leak
- Water overflowing the gutters next to the house and water running down behind the siding, causing paint to flake off
- Fiberglass showing on the shingles
- Soft spots where water had been wicking between the shingles
With Mapleton’s low temperatures and heavy rainfall for extended periods of time being common for neighborhoods in the Mapleton community throughout the year, owning a strong and reliable roofing system free of leaks is that much more important before it’s too late.

Solution
