New Roof Installation Gives Salem Homeowner Long-Term Protection

When a homeowner in Salem, OR decided it was time to replace their aging roof, they wanted more than just new shingles. They wanted a complete roofing system designed to protect their home for decades while improving durability, ventilation, and weather resistance.

Klaus Roofing Systems of Oregon completed a full roof replacement using a premium architectural roofing system backed by a 50-year workmanship warranty. The project included a complete tear-off of the existing roofing materials, roof deck preparation, advanced waterproofing, upgraded ventilation, and installation of high-performance architectural shingles.

Preparing the Roof Deck for Long-Term Performance

A successful roof starts beneath the shingles. After removing the existing roofing materials, the team inspected the roof decking and replaced any damaged plywood as needed. The entire roof deck was then re-nailed using ring-shank fasteners to strengthen the structure and improve resistance against Oregon's seasonal weather conditions.

To further protect the home, all plywood seams were sealed using self-adhering waterproof tape, helping reduce the risk of moisture intrusion through roof deck joints.

Advanced Waterproofing Protection

Oregon roofs face heavy rain, wind, and fluctuating temperatures throughout the year. To help prevent leaks, Sealoron XT Ice & Water Barrier was installed along the eaves, valleys, roof penetrations, chimneys, and other vulnerable areas.

The remaining roof deck was covered with synthetic VeloraOne underlayment, creating an additional layer of protection beneath the shingles. This high-performance underlayment helps defend the home against wind-driven rain and moisture infiltration.

Architectural Shingles Built for Oregon Weather

The homeowner selected premium Dynasty architectural shingles, known for their durability, reinforced nailing zone, and strong wind resistance. These shingles are designed to withstand winds up to 130 mph while providing an attractive dimensional appearance that enhances curb appeal.

Starter shingles were installed along all roof edges, while matching hip and ridge shingles completed the finished roof system.

Improved Roof Ventilation

Proper attic ventilation plays an important role in roof longevity and energy efficiency. The project included installation of a filtered ridge vent system designed to improve airflow throughout the attic while helping keep out weather and debris.

Existing roof penetrations were upgraded with new Perma-Boot pipe boots, and unused roof openings were sealed with specialized vent patch systems to eliminate potential leak points.

Custom Flashing and Chimney Upgrades

To provide complete weather protection, new galvanized flashing was installed at roof-to-wall transitions and around critical roof intersections. The chimney received new upper and lower pan flashing, counter flashing, and a new chimney cap to help prevent water intrusion and extend the life of the masonry structure.

A Roofing System Backed by a 50-Year Workmanship Warranty

With upgraded waterproofing, premium architectural shingles, improved ventilation, and expert installation practices, this Salem homeowner now has a complete roofing system designed to deliver decades of reliable performance.

The finished roof is backed by Klaus Roofing Systems of Oregon's 50-year workmanship warranty, providing long-term peace of mind and added value for future homeowners.
