Roof Replacement Case Study: Florence Coastal Home Transformation with Klaus Roofing Systems of Oregon

Living near the Oregon coast offers incredible views, but it also creates extreme challenges for roofing systems. This Florence, Oregon home had endured years of wind, moisture, and salt exposure, leaving multiple layers of aging shingles and underlying materials worn down and ineffective. Over time, this compromised both the roof’s performance and the home’s overall efficiency.
With nearly 2,800 sq ft of roofing and a complex design featuring 17 facets, along with multiple valleys, hips, and a small flat section, the project presented significant structural and installation challenges. This was not a simple replacement—it required a comprehensive approach to address both the environmental stressors and the roof’s complexity.
Solution
Instead of a simple replacement, this project focused on building a high-performance roofing system designed for Florence’s coastal climate. The process began with a full tear-off, allowing for structural inspection and replacement of any compromised decking. Advanced sealing was applied at all vulnerable areas, along with ice and water protection at eaves, valleys, and penetrations to prevent moisture intrusion.
A synthetic underlayment provided full-deck coverage, while an upgraded ventilation system improved attic airflow and long-term performance. The system was finished with architectural IKO shingles rated for 130 MPH winds, ensuring durability against strong coastal conditions.
The final design paired Atlantic Blue shingles with crisp white gutters and flashing, creating a clean, high-end look. Despite the home’s complexity—2,798 sq ft with 17 facets—custom flashing and ventilation were seamlessly integrated throughout.
Outcome: A fully integrated, coastal-grade roofing system backed by a 50-year workmanship warranty, delivering lasting protection, performance, and enhanced curb appeal.
