We recently completed a successful roof repair using high-quality asphalt shingles after identifying localized damage during a thorough inspection. Our sales representative, Thomas Moyer, recommended a targeted repair as a cost-effective way to extend the roof's lifespan and prevent further issues. We focus on solutions that fit each homeowner's needs, and in this case, a repair offered quick results with minimal disruption. This project shows how addressing problems early can help avoid larger, more expensive damage down the road.

The homeowner reached out after noticing significant wear and tear on their roof and wanted to address the issue before it led to leaks or more expensive structural damage.

Our Sales Representative, Thomas Moyer, conducted a thorough inspection to assess the condition of the roof. After evaluating the extent of the damage, he recommended a targeted repair of the affected shingles. This approach would help extend the roof’s lifespan while addressing the immediate concerns.

Understanding the Right Solution for Every Homeowner

While a full roof replacement can often provide the best long-term results, it’s not always the most practical option for every homeowner. Budget, timing, and the current condition of the roof all play a role in determining the right course of action.

At Klaus Roofing Systems, we believe in offering solutions that align with each customer’s unique situation. In this case, repairing the damaged shingles was an effective and cost-conscious way to restore the roof’s strength and prevent further issues.

The Benefits of Choosing a Repair

Roof Replacement Case Study: Florence Coastal Home Transformation with Klaus Roofing Systems of Oregon

Instead of a simple replacement, this project focused on building a high-performance roofing system designed for Florence’s coastal climate. The process began with a full tear-off, allowing for structural inspection and replacement of any compromised decking. Advanced sealing was applied at all vulnerable areas, along with ice and water protection at eaves, valleys, and penetrations to prevent moisture intrusion.

A synthetic underlayment provided full-deck coverage, while an upgraded ventilation system improved attic airflow and long-term performance. The system was finished with architectural IKO shingles rated for 130 MPH winds, ensuring durability against strong coastal conditions.

The final design paired Atlantic Blue shingles with crisp white gutters and flashing, creating a clean, high-end look. Despite the home’s complexity—2,798 sq ft with 17 facets—custom flashing and ventilation were seamlessly integrated throughout.

Outcome: A fully integrated, coastal-grade roofing system backed by a 50-year workmanship warranty, delivering lasting protection, performance, and enhanced curb appeal.

Living near the Oregon coast offers incredible views, but it also creates extreme challenges for roofing systems. This Florence, Oregon home had endured years of wind, moisture, and salt exposure, leaving multiple layers of aging shingles and underlying materials worn down and ineffective. Over time, this compromised both the roof’s performance and the home’s overall efficiency.

With nearly 2,800 sq ft of roofing and a complex design featuring 17 facets, along with multiple valleys, hips, and a small flat section, the project presented significant structural and installation challenges. This was not a simple replacement—it required a comprehensive approach to address both the environmental stressors and the roof’s complexity.

Klaus Roofing Systems now offers metal roofing in Oregon! You might be asking yourself, why should I consider a metal roof? The answer: a metal roof is more sustainable, incredibly durable, and well worth the investment.

What Is Metal Roofing?

A metal roof is made of steel or aluminum. These are panels that are installed on your roof, designed to withstand harsh weather and give your home a stronger, more durable look. Unlike traditional shingles, metal panels don’t crack, warp, or fade as easily, meaning your roof will look great for decades.

Metal roofs make it easy to install solar panels, so your roof can support clean energy without any major modifications later.

Underlayments – Beneath every metal roof is a high-quality underlayment, protecting your home from water, ice, and extreme weather. However, the truth is, any kind of deterioration can seriously affect the performance of your roof and result in improper insulation in your home, along with an increased electric bill. Roof damage is more than just a leaky ceiling. So, how do you identify roof damage, especially after a storm? Here’s a fool proof guide to assessing the integrity of your roof after a storm!

Curled or lifted shingles: As soon as shingles curl or lift, your roof reduces its efficiency to keep rain and snow from entering your home.

If not dealt with, this can cause more extensive damage to the roof as a whole.

Leaks in the attic or ceiling: Leaks are a tell tale sign of roof damage. When leaks are present, it shows water has been able to penetrate the roof, thus leaving your home leaky and compromised.

In some cases, it could even point to a chimney or venting issue, as heat and smoke can weaken the sealant surrounding roof penetrations.

Moss growth: Moss growth can indicate multiple issues in your roof, such as roofing material decay, poor ventilation, and an improper roof slope. This moss growth can eventually lead to further impairment, allowing water to seep in and cause further damage or even structural failure.

Step 1: Air Sealing Comes First

Before a single fluff of insulation goes into your attic, we need to address air leaks. This critical first step is what separates a mediocre insulation job from an exceptional one.

You can pile insulation three feet deep, but if warm air is escaping through gaps around recessed lights, plumbing penetrations, or attic hatches, you're still wasting energy and money.

Our crew uses a powerful insulation blowing machine. It is essentially a large hopper on wheels that breaks up compressed insulation bales and propels the material through a long hose system. The machine agitates and fluffs the insulation to its full expansion before sending it up to the attic. A long, flexible tube (typically 2-3 inches in diameter) connects the machine to the attic space. For most residential jobs, this hose can extend 100+ feet, allowing us to position the noisy machine outside or in the garage while working in the attic. Blown-in insulation is carefully distributed using specialized equipment that ensures:

- Even coverage across all areas

At Josh Lowe's Dr. Energy Saver, we primarily use TruSoft cellulose insulation for blown-in applications. Here's why:

Material Composition TruSoft is made from recycled paper fibers (up to 85% recycled content) treated with a unique two-stage fire retardant process. Unlike fiberglass, which can be irritating and is on the National Toxicology Program's list of substances "reasonably anticipated" to cause cancer, cellulose is biologically innocuous. As Dr. A. Furst, a leading toxicologist, notes: "In essence, the dust from cellulose insulation can be considered as any household dusts. Cellulose, per se, is non-toxic. Biologically, cellulose is innocuous."

Fire Safety Cellulose is the only building material in most homes commonly treated with fire retardants. TruSoft's two-stage process injects both dry and liquid fire retardants that penetrate the fibers, creating insulation that exceeds every local and national fire standard.

Performance Benefits

1. Preparation

Before our crew arrives, we conduct a thorough attic inspection to identify any issues that need addressing—roof leaks, inadequate ventilation, or structural concerns. On installation day, the team sets up the blowing machine and runs the hose to the attic access point.

2. Air Sealing (As Discussed)

This critical step happens before any insulation is installed, creating a complete thermal boundary.

3. Marking Depth Guides

We install depth markers or rulers throughout the attic to ensure consistent coverage and achieve the target R-value. For most Oregon homes, we recommend R-49 to R-60 insulation levels in attics.

4. Blowing the Insulation

One crew member operates the machine while another works in the attic, directing the hose to distribute insulation evenly. The attic installer:

- Starts at the furthest point from the access and works backward

- Fills all gaps, corners, and hard-to-reach areas

Common Questions About Attic Insulation:

Will insulation make my attic hot? Proper attic insulation actually keeps your attic cooler in summer by preventing heat from your living space from rising into the attic. Combined with adequate ventilation, this creates a more balanced attic environment.

Can I store items in my attic after insulation? Yes, but we recommend installing raised platforms or walkways over the insulation if you plan to use the attic for storage. Walking directly on blown-in insulation compresses it and reduces its R-value.

How long does blown-in insulation last? TruSoft cellulose insulation can last 20-30 years or more when properly installed. It settles minimally (about 1-2 inches) within the first year, which we account for during installation.

Is the dust from installation a concern? We take precautions to minimize dust, but some are inevitable. We seal off the attic access and use ventilation when needed. The dust from cellulose insulation is non-toxic and comparable to household dust.

Ready to Upgrade Your Attic Insulation?

Project Overview

A commercial property owner in Drain, Oregon, reached out to our team seeking a long-term solution for their aging flat roof. The existing roof showed signs of wear—ponding water, minor cracking, and surface degradation—but was still structurally sound. Rather than a full tear-off, the customer wanted a cost-effective restoration option that would extend the roof’s lifespan and improve weather resistance.

Scope of Work

Under the direction of Project Manager Johnathan, our crew completed a full silicone roof coating system installation designed to restore and protect the existing flat roof for decades of performance.

Work performed included:

Roof cleaning and surface prep to remove dirt, debris, and any loose materials.

Sealing of all seams, penetrations, and fasteners to prevent future leaks.

Application of a high-solids silicone roof coating for superior UV and moisture protection.

Final inspection and warranty certification for a 20-year manufacturer-backed system.

Challenges

Drain, Oregon’s variable weather patterns required precise scheduling to ensure proper curing conditions for the silicone coating. The crew also needed to ensure thorough cleaning and surface preparation to maximize adhesion and long-term performance.

Results

The roof is now fully restored and protected with a durable, seamless silicone membrane.

The reflective white surface will help reduce cooling costs and lower rooftop temperatures.

The customer received a 20-year manufacturer warranty, providing long-term peace of mind.

The project was completed efficiently, with minimal disruption to the customer’s daily operations.

Customer Outcome

The building owner now has a watertight, energy-efficient, and warrantied roof system without the cost or downtime of a full replacement. This project showcases how our silicone coating systems deliver long-lasting protection and value—an ideal solution for extending the life of commercial flat roofs in the Pacific Northwest.

Our solution was to completely rip off the old roof and replace it with new materials. We replaced all the skylights with new ones and installed our Klaus Roofing System with a 50-year warranty. As a result, this customer now has a brand new, warranted roof that is strong, worry-free, weather-tight, and reliable for decades to come.

Klaus was called to evaluate a customer’s roof that was installed 25 years ago, which was beginning to have leaking issues in the roof valleys.

In addition, the skylights had lost their gas between the glass and appeared hazy. This likely means the seal around the glass had deteriorated and other damage was being caused due to the failed insulated glass unit, leading to the hazel appearance.

What We Found:

Moss growing in the valleys between roof and wall flashing

Lifted shingles, creating a leak

Water overflowing the gutters next to the house and water running down behind the siding, causing paint to flake off

Fiberglass showing on the shingles

Soft spots where water had been wicking between the shingles

With Mapleton’s low temperatures and heavy rainfall for extended periods of time being common for neighborhoods in the Mapleton community throughout the year, owning a strong and reliable roofing system free of leaks is that much more important before it’s too late.

Many nearby houses and neighborhoods in the area, such as Brickerville, Rainrock, Tiernan, and Swisshome, may require similar attention for their roofing systems for the same reasons, as these communities are similarly susceptible to water, wind, and rainfall throughout the fall and winter.

Cost-Effective Insulation and Skylight Solution - Florence, OR

To provide insulation, add a SuperRoof Vented Deck Roofing System, or a “Superroof Sandwich” above their existing decking. It’s a design that provides insulation and allows air to flow continuously between the roof covering. The “sandwich” roof panel contains an insulation core in between the metal sheets that is durable, keeps buildings cool in the summer and warm in the winter, and reduces energy bills.

We also decided to remove the existing sunroom skylights and add three sun tunnel skylights to the attached mobile home. Sun tunnel skylights, or solar tubes, are a system that captures and brings natural sunlight from the roof into interior, darker areas of a building where traditional skylights aren’t practical, and is a cost-effective alternative to them.

A customer in Florence, OR, contacted Klaus because they had a lovely sunroom added to the front of the house, but unfortunately, the room had a leaky roof.

When our roofing consultant arrived at the house, the customer also asked about the possibility of insulating the roof despite its 2x4 construction in addition to fixing the leaking roof.

Our solution for this customer was to do a full roof replacement, which consisted of removing and replacing all the old shingles, removing and replacing all the damaged plywood decking, installing Sealaron XT tape and Sealaron Ice & Water Barrier, installing Klaus Roofing synthetic VeloraOne underlayment, and installing a filtered ridge vent.

A customer’s roof was aging fast and had a few repair jobs done on it not long before we came in for an inspection. But they were ready to have the roof replaced and contact Klaus for an estimate.

The aging roof introduced many problems that were existing and imminent:

Danger to start leaking soon

Warped roof from UV exposure

Significant asphalt loss to shingles

A warped roof is typically sagging, uneven, contains dips and ripples, and can be caused by moisture damage, wear and tear, excessive heat, or other installation issues. While UV exposure doesn’t directly lead to a warped roof, over time, the constant heat and UV radiation break down the asphalt. This causes shingles to deteriorate and creates an overall weaker structure and foundation.

Additionally, the likelihood of the roof leaking increases since a warped roof disrupts the protective layers of the roofing system and displaces shingles in a way that moisture and water can seep through.

1. Free Inspection and Estimate

We offer free inspections and estimates for any job so that homeowners can receive full transparency of their situation. Our team ensures customers receive an honest, thorough evaluation of the entire project, detailing every finding and recommendation from our experts to guarantee we install a safe, reliable solution for your home.

Our inspector will provide the estimate for the job and discuss the materials we plan on using, along with breaking down the full process in detail.

2. Planning

Once a customer chooses us for their project, our representative will discuss the logistics of what they discovered during their inspection and what the next course of action may look like. We will work with the customer on how they might want the project to look and the most efficient solution for their budget and the quality of the roofing system.

Our consultants will also plan out the timeline and exactly how the project will unfold, making sure the customer is fully transparent about what we plan to do and how it will be done.

3. Preparation
Our team prioritizes protecting your home in every way, and that includes the cleanliness and safety of other areas of the house. This includes protecting areas like windows, the side of the house, and the entire landscape of the house outside. We also ensure that safety equipment is set up throughout the process to protect your roofing system.

4. Old Roof Removal and Roof Repairs

We begin the replacement process by removing each aspect of the old roofing system, tearing out old plywood, shingles, flashing, nails, and any other accessories on the roof.

After stripping out the old roofing materials, we will further inspect the underlayment and roof decking to determine if there is further damage that needs repair. Making sure the foundation remains solid is critical for the shingles to stay intact.

There may be additional holes or unaccounted damages underneath the removed shingles that would require further repairs before the new roof installation gets underway.

5. Installations

All the magic happens once the removal and repairs are complete, when the roofing system is finally installed. Our installers will gear up, get up on the roof, and install your new roofing system.

Listed below are the common materials we will install:

SealoronXT Ice & Water Barrier that peels and sticks to the plywood, preventing water from getting under the shingles

CDX plywood to replace all damaged plywood decking

VeloraOne underlayment to cover the rest of the roof deck

Galvanized flashings to prevent water leaks

Asphalt shingles (Starter Shingles, Dynasty Architectural Shingles, Hip and Ridge Shingles, etc.)

Ridge shingles can be installed to protect the roof’s ridge and hips

Ridge vents can be installed to improve ventilation and reduce moisture buildup by allowing air to escape through the attic

We will have a foreman and managers on site with the installers throughout the entire process and will be consistently checking in on the work being done, making sure the roof is done right and properly installed at a high quality.

6. Cleanup and Final Inspection

The entire team will continuously ensure the workspace is protected and the rest of the property remains in good condition. This makes the cleanup process flawless as we remove any excess dirt or debris left behind during construction. Our goal is for you to look around and struggle to realize our roofers were even there.

We will conduct one final inspection to confirm everything is in compliance with how we promised to install the Klaus Roofing System, “the Klaus Roofing Way.”

Call us today at [[phone]] to begin your first step in repairing or replacing your roof by receiving a free inspection and quote of your current roofing system. We’ll come out, thoroughly inspect your roof and property, and give you a free estimate!

Our customer now enjoys a worry-free and weather-tight roof carrying a 50-year warranty with all new materials and skylights!

A customer in Newport called Klaus for an in-home inspection when their roof, which was installed 25 years ago, was starting to have leaking problems in the roof valleys.

Our Sales Consultant, Sean Copas, went out to take a look at the roof. During his evaluation, he discovered that the roof did not have proper flashing, which can lead to many foundational issues:

Causes water to easily leak and seep into areas of the roof

Result in rotting and structural damage

Increased vulnerability of damage to asphalt shingles

Creates mold or mildew growth

Shortens lifespan of roof

What Sean Found:

Moss had begun to grow in the valleys between the roof and the wall flashing, causing shingles to lift and creating leaks

The old roofing was improperly installed, and a few shingles had blown off in the wind

The flashings were rusted and falling apart; needed to be replaced with stainless steel flashings

Roof Replacement Decision Following Klaus Evaluation - Sutherlin, OR

Ultimately, our team and the customer came to a conclusion and they decided on the peace of mind that a quality new roof would give them, and the ability to pay in today’s dollars rather than 6-8 years later, where untold inflationary factors may raise the costs. Now was the time to replace the roof for their circumstances.

The customer was thrilled about the scope of everything the Klaus 50-year warranty included, ensuring high-quality workmanship and roofing systems for every home we serve.

Our customer in Sutherlin had recently purchased a new home for his family and asked Klaus for a home evaluation. Despite the roof being only 15 years old, they had noticed that it was not aging very well.

Following an inspection by our Certified Roofing Consultant, Chris Anderson, he found that the roof was indeed going downhill fast. However, given the state the roof was in, it likely would not have developed any leaks within the next 6-8 years.

Anderson spoke with the customer and discussed the advantages and disadvantages of having a roof replacement now, as opposed to waiting to replace the roof.

The Serious Threat of Moss on Roofs

Moss poses many issues and significant threats to roofing systems. These problems can cause damage all around, and it is recommended to take steps to control the situation before it escalates.

There are many roofing issues, some more important than others, and some requiring more attention. But the biggest threat of them all is the issues that are downplayed and end up coming around to be the ultimate destroyer.

Moss growth on roofs often goes unnoticed for long periods of time. When homeowners finally notice moss growth, it often appears harmless or minimal, but this perception can be deceiving. Moss has proven to be a serious threat to roofs and is responsible for structural damage to roofs and homes.

To start, a lot needs to be understood about moss growth on roofs and the impact it has before determining any next steps to handle such issues.

What is Moss?

Moss is a flowerless plant that doesn't have roots, but has stems and leaves. It forms from spores, similar to fungi, that are spread by wind into the air and land on damp, moist, and shady surfaces. Moss grows rapidly in these wet, humid environments, and debris can trap the moisture to further increase its growth rate.

Some roofs are ideal environments for moss growth as they can stay damp longer and are in shaded areas, which are conditions prone to moss growth and reproduction.

Moss Damage on Roofs

Moisture buildup leads to roof shingle deterioration and damage. It also increases the likelihood of wood rot, worsening materials, and water leaking through the roofing system and into your home.

Other possible outcomes of moss damage on roofs include:

Protective layers and oils of shingles becoming stripped, increasing vulnerability to structural damage

A lack of protection that increases the probability of UV radiation damage

Pushing shingles apart or causing them to detach; occurs when moss grows and expands underneath shingles

Blocking drainage or gutter systems, preventing proper water flow

Bacteria or mold growth

Rotting structures or underlayment

While a viable option is to remove or wash off moss sitting on an old roof, this may result in shingle damage and diminish the lifespan of the roof. A roof replacement may not be immediately necessary, but there are notable signs to look out for.

Leaking roof

Cracked shingles

Curling or buckling shingles

Sagging roof

Granule loss

Rotting or discolored roof decking in the attic

Next Steps

The first step in dealing with moss growth on roofs is to simply remove it. Doing so will get rid of the main source of problems: moisture buildup. It also removes the moss’s weight from overloading the roof, which causes sagging or leaking if enough moss is built up.

It is also recommended to take immediate steps in doing what’s necessary to prevent further moss growth in the future. This includes:

Removing shade elements and allowing more sunlight onto the roof, such as trimming trees

Consistently clearing leaves, twigs, and other debris from the roof and gutters

Improving the water drainage of the roof and gutter system to prevent moisture or water buildup

Using solutions that deter moss growth in vulnerable areas

Moss removal is recommended to be taken up by a professional due to safety and owning the necessary materials to properly remove, clean, and minimize damage.

Consider hiring Klaus Roofing Systems of Oregon to inspect the situation and determine whether or not the roof needs a replacement. While it is possible to remove all the built-up moss, debris, and other articles that may have formed or accumulated on the roof, hazardous chemicals and additional damages may be present and necessary for further evaluation.

What Is the Roofline?

The roofline is the edge of your roof where your shingles, fascia board, and soffit come together. It's also where your gutters are mounted. When your roofline is built or maintained correctly, rainwater flows smoothly from the shingles straight into the gutter system.

But when it's not? That's when problems start.

Why Would a Roofline Need to Be Cut Back?

As a roofing-first company, we take a full-systems approach. That means we don't just install gutters. We make sure your roof and drainage system work together. Here are the most common reasons we may recommend cutting back the roofline:

1. Overextended Shingle Overhang

Some older homes have shingles that hang 2 to 4 inches past the edge of the fascia. While that may have been a common practice decades ago, it interferes with today's gutter systems. Overhanging shingles can cause rain to overshoot the gutters, make it impossible to install gutters flush with the fascia, and lead to premature wear or leaking behind the gutters.

2. No Drip Edge or Poor Flashing

If your roof lacks a proper drip edge, water can run behind the gutters and into the soffit or fascia, eventually leading to rot and interior damage. By cutting back the roofline, we create space to install a modern drip edge and seal everything correctly.

3. Rotting or Warped Fascia Boards

We often find fascia boards that have warped over time or have started to rot. Cutting back the roofline allows us to rebuild or reinforce this area so that your gutters can be mounted securely and level.

Why This Matters for Gutter Performance

Cutting back the roofline might sound like a roofing detail, but it's actually a crucial part of ensuring your gutters work the way they should, especially here in Oregon, where heavy seasonal rainfall is the norm.

Benefits of roofline modification include stopping water from overshooting gutters, protecting fascia and soffits from rot, improving overall roof drainage, ensuring compatibility with gutter guards and covers, and making your gutter install last longer and perform better.

How We Handle Gutters at Klaus Roofing Systems of Oregon

As part of a trusted network of local companies, we're proud to work closely with our sister company, Pacific Gutter Company, for gutter installation and protection systems. Together, we make sure every home we work on has a seamless system from shingles to downspouts.

So, when we tell you that your roofline may need to be trimmed back before gutters go up, it's because we've looked at the entire system, not just one piece of it.

When Is Roofline Work Needed?

Not every home will need roofline adjustments. But we often recommend it when shingles overhang too far, gutters keep overflowing even when clean, fascia is sagging or water-damaged, or you're upgrading to covered or high-capacity gutter systems.

Let's Fix It the Right Way From the Roof Down

At Klaus Roofing Systems of Oregon, we believe in doing things the right way, not the easy way. If your roofline is interfering with proper drainage, we'll let you know, and we'll work with Pacific Gutter Company to get everything aligned and flowing exactly how it should.

After noticing a leaky gutter system, a customer turned to Klaus for an inspection and ultimately a gutter replacement. Our team offered the most cost-effective and reliable solution for his home, the Gutter Shutter system.

Problem

A customer was dealing with a leaking gutter in his 1942 bungalow-style house that was completely broken and needed to be replaced.

Many problems can cause leaky gutters, but clogging is the most common reason.

Some reasons for leaking may include:

Debris, such as leaves, twigs, shingle granules, pine, dirt, etc., clogging up gutter

Water clogging up gutter or downspout, leading to water overflow

Gutter sagging or pulling away

Loose screws or poor tightening of gutter system

Punctures, cracks, or holes in gutter system

As a result of clogging issues, water flow is blocked. Proper water flow is necessary to divert rainwater or water buildup away from the house. Water diversion occurs with the use of downspouts, sump pumps, or other diversion systems. If these are clogged, water that’s accumulated cannot properly flow and will ultimately overflow the system, causing further issues such as leaking, structural damage, and more.

Sagging gutters come from the same issues, as excessive debris or water accumulation in your gutter system will cause them to sag. This will disturb the drainage and waterflow system and cause gutters to overflow.

Similarly, gutters pull away from the house due to the excessive buildup of debris or water, and too much weight accumulating in the system will cause structural damage to the roof and house. Additionally, it will prevent water from properly draining and flowing away from the house, which can lead to similar issues mentioned above.

Mike, our 75-year-old customer, no longer wanted to climb ladders and clean gutters, and was in need of a reliable solution and gutter system that was guaranteed to solve his leaky gutter issues once and for all.

Solution

Our solution for Mike was to install Gutter Shutter®, the strongest, most durable, and longest-lasting gutter system on the market. The gutters are larger and thicker than standard gutter systems and can carry 20% more water.

The gutter guard system blocks out all unwanted debris from the gutters and improves water flow to allow for an effective water drainage system. With Gutter Shutter, homeowners will no longer have to climb ladders to clean their gutters or worry about clogging issues.

Gutter Shutter Guarantees:

Lifetime no-clog warranty

No-sag guarantee

No-pull guarantee

No water damage guarantee

The clog-free design coincides with the system’s 6-inch wide gutters that are larger than standard 5-inch gutters, and Gutter Shutter is made with heavy, 0.032 thick aluminum to ensure a strong, durable gutter guaranteed to never sag or pull away from your home.

For Mike, the heavy-duty system handled twice as much water as his old conventional gutters. As a result of installing Gutter Shutter, Mike will no longer have to worry about his gutter systems clogging, needing to be cleaned, or leaking again.

From the beginning, our team worked closely with the homeowner to ensure a smooth and transparent process. Project Manager Chris provided a detailed walkthrough of the scope, timeline, and care plan for the solar panels.

Once the roof was fully replaced with premium materials, we reinstalled the panels, ensured all wiring was intact, and restarted the solar energy system to verify proper function.

Chris and Aidan are great! Very clean and friendly crew. They cleaned up after themselves. Chris walked us through the process and supported us throughout. We love our high quality roof. We had 24 solar panels and they took them down and put them up. They restarted the system for us too. Aiden ran a tight ship and worked hard in a timely manner. Very comfortable and stress free process. Highly recommend Klaus Roofing. They are doing our insulation so stay tuned for next review. I'm sure it will be another 5 stars."

Adequate attic insulation regulates your home's temperature, improves energy efficiency, and air quality. Our experts explain why now may be the best time to replace your attic insulation.

Does your house feel abnormally warm during the summers or freezing during the winters despite all your systems running well? It may be time to take a look at your attic insulation and examine if you need a replacement.

Attic insulation helps regulate your home's temperature, improves energy efficiency, prevents moisture buildup, minimizes pollutants in your home, and can improve indoor air quality. While attic insulation should be inspected every 10-15 years, early warning signs may include inconsistent temperatures in your home, drafts, or visible damage that would be worth evaluating.

Here’s why right now may be the best time for you to replace your attic insulation.

Save Money on Heating & Cooling Costs

Many issues may arise when your home has poor attic insulation:

Heat or cold air escaping easier

Heat or cold air getting let in easier

Inconsistencies in the indoor temperature

Decreased energy efficiency and increased energy bills

Moisture and mold growth

Poor air quality

Poor attic insulation can largely lead to issues with maintaining the temperature in your home, which can come from heat getting let in and cool air escaping. These inconsistencies in the indoor temperature will cause your energy bills to increase due to energy systems in your house working harder to combat the outside air temperature blending with the indoor temperature.

Figuring out what the issue is early on can help you maintain your desired temperature and significantly save you money to heat or cool your house. Additionally, combining insulation with attic air sealing can drastically improve the airtight environment in your attic and further reduce hot or cold air from entering or leaving the building.

Reduce Wear & Tear on HVAC System

Your HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) system works to regulate the temperature and air quality for your indoor home environment by circulating air and using heating, cooling, and ventilation components.

However, energy systems will have to work harder if heat is escaping during colder seasons and cold air is entering into your house, for example. Inconsistent temperature forces the HVAC system to produce more energy than it should be, thus, increasing the rate at which it deteriorates and probability of being damaged.

Improving your attic insulation system will reduce the time and power at which your HVAC system will have to run, prolongs the lifespan of the system and equipment, prevents freezing or overheating the system, and other improvements that benefit the overall energy efficiency.

Make Home More Comfortable

In addition to regulating the temperature inside your house, replacing your attic insulation as soon as possible can lead to more benefits for your home and improve its comfortability.

Reduces air pollutants, dust, allergens, or irritants entering your home

Reduces moisture and mold buildup, preventing possible structural damages

Decreases risk of pest infestations

Regulates humidity levels

Higher energy efficiency

More stable temperatures

Reduces strain on HVAC system

Attic Leak Leads to Water Damage in Kitchen - Eugene, OR

Our roofing consultant, Chris Anderson, completed his inspection and found that it would not make sense to do a patch on the roof because the customer needed a roof replacement soon.

What our team did:

Reroofed the house

Sealed the attic

Provided adequate insulation

Results and Customer Satisfaction

The insulation reduces the amount of air flowing out of the house and traps heat or cool air inside the building, and prevents outside air from entering in. As a result, the customers saw high energy savings that would ultimately pay for this entire project.

Customers Gigi and John in Eugene reported that water was coming into their cupboard above their stove when it rained.

We inspected the attic and discovered that water was coming from around the flashing (material used to direct water to the shingles and down the flashing, away from the roof deck) of a pipe boot (a type of flashing that waterproofs pipes by going around its base) and down into the area just above their stove.

Additional Problems Upon Inspection:

Very little insulation in areas of the house

No insulation in the attic

Roof was old and brittle

Loss of granules on roof shingles

Our sister company Pacific Gutter has opened a Tualatin location focused on the Gutter Shutter® system - a clog-free solution for Oregon homeowners.

At Klaus Roofing Systems of Oregon, we believe a home is only as strong as the systems protecting it — from the roof down to the gutters. That’s why we’re thrilled to announce the launch of our sister company, Pacific Gutter, and their brand-new location in Tualatin, OR.

This expansion brings the nationally recognized Gutter Shutter® system directly to homeowners throughout the Portland metro area and the Willamette Valley.

Why Gutter Shutter®?

Oregon’s rainy seasons demand a gutter system that performs year-round–without clogs, cleaning, or sagging. Gutter Shutter is a heavy-duty, all-aluminum, enclosed gutter protection system that’s:

- Guaranteed to never clog
- Designed to never pull away from your home
- Built with larger downspouts for faster drainage
- Backed by a lifetime no-clog warranty

Fun fact: Gutter Shutter installs without lifting your shingles or disturbing your roof system– making it the perfect complement to a Klaus roof.

As a sister company to Klaus Roofing Systems of Oregon, they bring the same commitment to craftsmanship, customer care, and long-term home protection. Their new Tualatin division focuses exclusively on gutter inspections, Gutter Shutter installation, and protection plans — so you get fast service and deep expertise in one of the most critical parts of your home.

Serving Tualatin and Beyond

From Beaverton to Lake Oswego, and Wilsonville to West Linn, the new Pacific Gutter location is now offering free gutter evaluations and consultations.

Visit: Pacific Gutter Website

What to Know Before Buying a Home in Eugene, OR

Thinking of Buying a Home in Eugene, OR? Here's What You Need to Know. Before you purchase a home in Eugene, it's important to pay close attention to the condition of the roof. A thorough roof inspection can reveal hidden issues that may lead to costly repairs down the road. In this article, we'll cover what to look for, why professional inspections matter, and how to avoid surprises after closing.

Why Roof Inspections Matter in Eugene, OR—And What Every Homeowner Should Know

Living in Eugene means lush greenery, cozy rainstorms, and all the charm the Pacific Northwest has to offer. But all that natural beauty comes with a price—especially when it comes to your roof.

Here in Lane County, roofs work overtime. From heavy winter rains to persistent moss growth and the occasional snow, your roof is constantly taking a beating. That’s why regular roof inspections in Eugene aren’t just a good idea—they’re essential.

Buying a Home in Eugene? Don’t Skip the Roof Inspection.

Whether you're looking at a mid-century bungalow in the University neighborhood or a newer build in Santa Clara, every roof has a history. And not all of them are pretty.

A professional roof inspection can reveal:

How much life is left in the current roof

Signs of DIY or patchy repair work

Potential leaks or hidden water damage

Code violations or outdated materials

With Eugene’s competitive housing market, the last thing you want is to move into your dream home only to find out the roof needs major work. An inspection gives you peace of mind—and often, negotiation power.

Roof Inspections During Home Transactions

Whether you’re buying in the Friendly neighborhood or selling near Amazon Park, getting a roof inspection during the transaction process is a no-brainer. It helps buyers make confident decisions, and it gives sellers the opportunity to address issues before they become deal-breakers.

Don’t be swayed by fresh paint or new flooring—if the roof is failing, none of that will matter once the rain starts falling.

Eugene Roofs Face Unique Challenges

We get nearly 50 inches of rain a year, and many homes are surrounded by large trees, which means:

Moisture builds up, leading to moss and mold

Falling branches and debris can damage shingles and flashing

Gutters clog easily, causing water to back up and rot the roof edge

Having your roof checked regularly—especially before winter or after a big storm—can prevent small issues from becoming expensive repairs.

We were also featured in a Redfin article!
Check it out here: Roof Inspections: Should You Get One Before Buying a House? | Redfin

If you're searching “roof repair vs replacement Oregon” or “roofing inspection near me,” you're not alone. Oregon’s unique climate—with heavy rain, moss growth, and windstorms—puts your roof through more stress than the national average. But does every roof issue mean it’s time for a full replacement?

This guide will walk you through:

When a simple repair is enough

Red flags that mean it's time for a full replacement

What a roofing inspection near you should include

First, Take a Breath — Not Every Leak Means a Full Roof Replacement

Oregon weather is brutal on roofs, we get it. Between the rain, moss, wind, and occasional ice, even a 10-year-old roof can look like it’s on its last leg. But that doesn’t always mean you need to shell out $10,000.

You Might Just Need a Repair If:

You’ve got a small, contained leak (maybe around a vent or chimney)

There are a few missing or cracked shingles, but no signs of widespread damage

Your roof is under 15 years old and hasn’t had major issues before

Moss is growing, but the shingles beneath are intact

A licensed Oregon roofer should be able to patch minor problems quickly— especially if caught early.

When It’s Probably Time for a Full Roof Replacement

There’s damage… and then there’s damage. Here’s when repairs aren’t going to cut it:

Large sections of shingles are curling, cracking, or completely gone

You’re finding leaks in multiple areas of your home

Your roof is over 20 years old

You’ve had to fix it more than once in the past 3–5 years

You’re noticing soft spots, sagging, or water damage in the attic

Truth is, the cost of patching things up again and again can quickly outpace the cost of a full replacement.

"In Oregon's climate, a roof that might last 30 years in Arizona often needs replacement after just 15-20 years here. Our moisture, freeze-thaw cycles, and persistent moss growth accelerate aging dramatically." - Klaus Roofing Sales Director

The Oregon-Specific Roofing Challenge: Moss, Rain & Wind

What makes Oregon roofs different from those in other states? Three words: moss, rain, and wind.

Our unique climate creates specific challenges:

Persistent moisture encourages moss growth that can lift shingles

Heavy rainfall finds even the smallest vulnerabilities

Windstorms damage shingles that might have lasted years longer elsewhere

Freeze-thaw cycles in winter cause expansion and contraction

These factors combined mean Oregon roofs typically age 5-10 years faster than identical roofs in drier climates.

What to Expect from a Professional Oregon Roof Inspection

Beware of "inspectors" who never leave the ground. A legitimate Oregon roof inspection should include:

Physical roof access - inspectors should actually get on your roof

Attic examination to check for water intrusion and ventilation issues

Detailed moss assessment (a particular Oregon problem)

Flashing and valley inspections where leaks most commonly begin

Written report with photos documenting specific concerns

Transparent recommendations with repair vs. replacement options

5 Questions to Ask Before Hiring an Oregon Roofing Contractor

"Are you licensed with the Oregon Construction Contractors Board (CCB)?" Always verify their CCB number at ccb.oregon.gov

"Do you carry Oregon workers' compensation insurance?" This protects you from liability if someone is injured on your property

"What specific experience do you have with Oregon's climate challenges?" Look for contractors who understand our unique moisture issues

"Can you provide local references from my specific city?" Oregon roofing needs vary dramatically from Portland to Bend to Medford

"What warranties do you offer on both repairs and replacements?" Quality contractors stand behind their work with solid guarantees

Frequently Asked Questions About Oregon Roof Repair vs Replacement

Can I repair my Oregon roof myself?

While DIY repairs might seem cost-effective, they often lead to bigger problems. Oregon's frequent rain means even small mistakes can cause significant leaks. Additionally, DIY repairs typically void manufacturer warranties and may not meet Oregon building codes.

Will my homeowner's insurance cover Oregon roof damage?

Most Oregon insurance policies cover sudden, accidental damage (like tree falls or wind damage) but not wear-and-tear or maintenance issues. Document all damage with photos and contact your insurance company immediately after storms.

How long do asphalt shingle roofs last in Oregon?

While manufacturers might claim 25-30 years, Oregon's climate significantly reduces this lifespan. Most asphalt shingle roofs in western Oregon last 15-20 years, while those in drier eastern Oregon regions might reach 20-25 years with proper maintenance.

What's the best season for roof work in Oregon?

Summer and early fall (June-September) are ideal for Oregon roofing projects. However, reputable Oregon contractors can work year-round using appropriate weather protection methods during rainy periods when repairs are urgent.

What permits do I need for Oregon roof work?

Most Oregon jurisdictions require permits for roof replacements but not for minor repairs. Requirements vary by city and county, so check with your local building department or ask your roofing contractor to handle permitting.

Spring is the perfect time for a roof inspection in the PNW. Learn why Klaus Roofing Systems recommends seasonal roof maintenance to protect your home year-round.

After months of Pacific Northwest wind, rain, and the occasional ice storm, your roof’s shingles have taken a beating. But here’s the thing, shingle damage doesn’t always look dramatic.

Sometimes, the early warning signs are subtle, and if you miss them, you could end up with serious damage inside your home.

At Klaus Roofing Systems of Oregon, we specialize in catching small issues before they snowball into expensive repairs. And when it comes to spring roof maintenance, shingles are the first place we look.

What Causes Shingle Damage in the PNW?

Our region's wet winters and gusty storms create the perfect storm (literally) for roof wear:

Lifted or curled shingles from high winds

Granule loss from heavy rainfall and debris

Water intrusion from compromised flashing or torn shingles

UV damage as soon as the sun starts shining again

And the worst part? You might not notice anything from the ground.

Signs Your Shingles Need Attention

According to our Sales Manager, Erik Emanuel, the early signs of shingle failure are often overlooked:

“A roof inspection is a simple way to keep your home protected and extend the life of your roof,” says Erik. “Once your roof hits 10 years old, it’s smart to have it checked every five years to catch small issues before they turn into big problems. Keep an eye out for granules in your downspouts, missing or raised shingles, and discoloration—these are early warning signs. When a roof fails, the damage inside can be serious, so staying ahead of it is always the best plan.”

These issues are especially common after winter, which is why spring inspections are so important.

See the full article on Redfin →

Why Spring Is the Best Time to Spot Shingle Damage

Spring offers a dry window of opportunity—long enough for a thorough inspection, and early enough to make repairs before the hot, dry season hits. Here’s why it’s smart to act now:

Better visibility: Damage like granule loss or discoloration is easier to spot after heavy rainfall.

Less demand: Roofing schedules fill up fast in late spring and summer—get ahead of the crowd.

Prevention over repair: Replacing a few damaged shingles now is way cheaper than fixing a leak later.

Especially, If you live in Eugene, Springfield, or Corvallis, spring roof inspections are key to protecting your home and catching wear before it turns into a leak.

What We Do During a Spring Shingle Check

When you call Klaus Roofing Systems of Oregon, we don’t just glance at your roof—we take a detailed look at:

Signs of aging (cracks, curls, or blistering)

Granule accumulation in gutters

Proper sealing and flashing

Protect What’s Underneath

Your roof protects your attic, insulation, framing, and everything below. Shingle damage might seem minor, but it’s the gateway to moisture, mold, and rot. A quick spring inspection could save you thousands.

Ready to Get Ahead of It?

Whether your roof is 5 years old or 15, spring is the best time to take a proactive step. Let’s catch the small stuff before it becomes big stuff.

We began by inspecting the roof and talking with the homeowner about any questions or concerns they had about the project. From there, we scheduled the installation and began making the preparations.

To begin the installation, our team strips the old shingles and assesses the decking to see if any of it needs to be repaired or replaced. During this project, we also got into the attic to fix the roof's substructure and add insulation. Once this was completed, our team began installing the new Klaus roof. Our award-winning roofing system features only the highest quality materials and processes to back up our industry-leading 50-year warranty. This roof was finished off with IKO Dynasty architectural shingles in Castle Grey.

The customer chose to replace his roof the Klaus Roofing way!

We start by removing the existing shingles and replacing any rotted or damaged plywood decking. We then renail all the wood decking and install new RVO vents. We also install a special synthetic underlayment that helps to prevent leaks and protect the roof. This customer chose IKO architectural shingles in Castle Grey for the new roof. Last but certainly not least, we haul away all the debris and clean up the job to the customer's satisfaction. The results are astounding!

This customer called us about his aging roof. Normally the first step in the process is an inspection from one of our certified inspectors. When we got a closer look at the roof, we discovered a significant amount of damage to the roof. Multiple leaking spots, cracked shingles, granule loss, and rot.

Our Inspector Wendy investigated the roof. We actually get on the roof to see what is going on. The roof was worn out and had moss on one side (photo 1). She then shared with the owner her findings and recommendations.

In photo 2, you can also see the tape used along the seams. Not every roofer takes this extra step against potential leaks.

The roofing crew then installed the special “ice and water” underlayment 3 feet up from the edge, the IKO RoofGuard underlayment, and galvanized steel drip metal on the eaves and rake edges (photo 3). We then re-shingled with IKO Cambridge shingles (photo 4). No more concern about leaks now!

Our Inspector climbed onto the roof to investigate, and she used a software program to take photos that gives exact measurements.

They chose us to re-roof this home, the Klaus Roofing Way. In this BEFORE photo, you see many places where shingles were very damaged or missing.

Our roofing crew started by removing the old shingles and underlayment; they found very old and fragile wood decking that was rotted in some areas. Because this attic area is a living space, we couldn’t see the decking condition until shingles were removed. Yet, since there were leaks in the house, we expected to find issues.

Our crew covered the existing decking with new 3/4-inch plywood. (see re-decking photos) They then taped all the seams to help prevent future leaks.

The next layer is the specific synthetic protective underlayment. The last three feet has an “ice & water” barrier laid down to protect against future leaks.

The roof was then re-shingled with high-quality IKO Dynasty shingles in the Appalachian color (AFTER photo). The crew then cleaned up and ensured no nails were left.

Because of our thoroughness and attention to detail, they chose to go with us. Even though it had been tarped (photo 1) water was still making its way in.

Our crew removed the old garage roof. When we remove the rotted plywood under the shingles, we saw where water had been leaking under the plywood (photo 2). These areas had new plywood installed rather than less sturdy pressboard (photo 3), and then the whole garage was re-roofed with IKO shingles (photo 4).

The owners thanked us for the care our crew took at their home, especially leaving the premises cleaner than when we arrived.

This Corvallis, OR garage roof was leaking and caused interior damage. The owners found us online and called for an appointment. At first, they were surprised we were going to be there for more than ten minutes and actually investigate what was going on, unlike other roofing companies.
